The design phase is often the most complex, balancing a number of conflicting demands. We draw on our experiences in the fields of structural engineering, architecture, building services and materials science.
We adopt an 'holistic approach' based on a Four Discipline Model and consider:
A --Structure: |
|
Will the roof collapse or blow
away? |
B--Weatherproofing: |
|
Will the roof leak? |
C--Hygrothermal:
|
|
Will there be excessive heat
loss or condensation? |
D--Durability:
|
|
Will the roof last? |
E--Service: |
|
Will the roof meet the owner's
needs? |
Sometimes our involvement takes the form
of a design audit of a proposed scheme.
Specifically we:
- maintain a full set of relevant British Standards
and Building Regulation Approved Documents.
- run AutoCAD 2002 drafting software.
- use a finite element computer program to calculate
steady-state heat transfer.
On completion of the design we can carry out the
contract administration.
